It's been three years in the making and we are well on the way to realising the beginnings of our true potential as a brand. Ka kā wā has for three years proven that our products are worthy of sitting on shelves next to bigger brands, and we are ready to take that next step.
We are crowdfunding our next step as we have bootstrapped up until this point and as a zero waste brand we will probably always do so, because we care about what we waste, we see it as resource. So everything is going back into the business to take this next step forward.

We have received some funding from multiple sources to support this process and are very grateful for the support from Puna Pakihi - Ngāi Tahu Business grants, Dunedin City Council Hapori Fund, and Poutama Trust.
Now the Poutama trust is where it gets interesting as this is a reimbursement fund, so it only works once we purchase the items, we get a reimbursement for part of the funding allocated. So to make it work we have to do this before December 31st 2026. the end of this year. we really want to purchase the Concher this month. Because to be honest, I can't keep up with the orders with the x3 smaller conchers we are using now. I haven't been able to keep up for some time now, and this is putting more stress on me.
This 20kg Concher unlocks all the rest of the equipment, as once the reimbursement comes through, we will then be able to afford the rest of the equipment. This then leads us down the path to better product for everyone to enjoy. it triples our capacity in one moment.
We are also moving into a bigger space, that has a customer front facing service area, which means you will be able to visit us, purchase directly from us, and I will be able to minimise my travel to markets, as for three years pretty much every weekend I have attended, one/two markets, which also takes its toll. I am very aware of my own limitations as someone with a neurological disability, healing my achilles tendon, dealing with monthly bleed pain, which often means I have to cancel events. All of these factors can becomes easier with these upgrades and the ability to employ myself properly and support staff.
So this is why we are asking for your support to help us scale our equipment, it's not just one factor of asking for money, it's a total rehaul of our operating systems, our tikanga and ability to create more, better products to support you all as well.
We are super excited to welcome you through our new doors, and can't wait to do so, but of course, we need a bunch of things to make that happen, which I also have to fund somehow, alongside the equipment we need to scale. So this is why we are asking for your support to help us fund those parts that we need to make it all happen.
Things we need:
- Stainless Steel benches
- Coffee machine ( we have no interest in making coffee, but this will allow us to sell more if our hot drinks range) so if you have a small household coffee machine that you want to get rid of let me know.
- Electrical work
- Counter, display shelving and seating.
These are outside of our Concher, Cracker and Winnower and tempering machine, that the funding has been allocated for.
We would love to be able to invite you to our opening of our new space before Cruise Ship season starts Oct 21st, as our new space is in Kōpūtai (Port Chalmers). Follow our socials for a more in depth insight into behind the scenes of setting this up.
